Dhee, whose birth name is Dheekshitha Venkadeshan, was born on June 26, 1998, in Jaffna, Sri Lanka. She is an Australian singer of Sri Lankan Tamil descent. Dhee started her career in playback singing in 2012 and has mostly sung songs in her step-father Santhosh Narayanan’s albums. She gained recognition for her unique alto voice and even received a Filmfare nomination for Best Singer.
Dhee was raised in Sydney, Australia, and her mother, Meenakshi Iyer, is a Carnatic musician. She made her breakthrough with the song “Naan Nee” from the movie Madras (2014), earning her Best Female Singer nominations at the Filmfare and Vijay Awards. She continued to work on critically acclaimed albums like Kaala (2018) and Vada Chennai (2018).
In 2021, Dhee debuted as a pop singer with the song “Enjoy Enjaami,” produced by her stepfather, Santhosh Narayanan. The song became an instant hit, garnering over 398 million views on YouTube as of March 2022. She is also working on her first studio album, which is expected to feature contemporary jazz songs and mark her first English-language release.
